Samsung has released the lightweight 9 Series notebook computer.

The notebook computer has a 13.3-inch-screen, is 16.3 millimeters thick and weighs 1.31 kilograms. It runs on Intel’s core processor.

The electronics company said the notebook computer will have a battery life of up to more than seven hours. It claimed that the notebook computer will be made of duralumin, which is considered to be stronger than aluminum.

Samsung said the new notebook would cost 2.5m won ($2,218) in Korea. The product would be launched globally from next month in the Americas and Europe.

The company also plans to launch a smaller 11-inch notebook computer next month.

Samsung has said that it wanted to rise to the No.6 position in the global mobile PC market this year, one place up from last year’s seventh place.

The launch is seen by industry watchers as a move to compete with Apple’s MacBook Air which was launched in October last year.
