Command Communications Inc, Aurora, Colorado announced completion of a product development project to allow computer modems to transmit and receive data over the existing cellular telephone network, using any one of approximately 50 different cellular phones currently on the market: the interface product engineered by Intercel Pty Ltd of Australia is now marketed solely by Command and is called CelCom; by providing a direct cable link between cellular telephones and modems equipped with Rockwell International Inc chip sets, Command anticipates the primary application for CelCom to be in conjunction with portable computers, Personal Digital Assistants and palmtop and pen-based computers; CelCom will be out in May; as reported, Command also signed a licensing agreement with Spectrum Information Technologies Inc for its wireless modem technology for use in the system.
