Apple Computer Inc’s planned on-line information and bulletin board service, to be announced this week for launch in April, is to be called eWorld: Apple has concentrated on building an easier-to-navigate user interface as its competitive edge, the San Jose Mercury News reported, adding that it will be targeted first at owners of Macintoshes, later providing interfaces for the Newton Personal Digital Assistant, and for Windows machines; it is setting up its own computers and related hardware in Napa, California to run the service, rather than use an existing system; AppleLink runs on the GEnie system operated by General Electric Co’s General Electric Information Services unit; the eWorld system is being designed at Apple’s General Magic Corp venture in which AT&T Co, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd, Motorola Inc, Philips Electronics NV and Sony Corp are also investors, Reuter reported; Apple is planning a party for the launch tomorrow and supporting partners set to appear include Reuters America Inc, Regis McKenna Inc, ZiffNet/Mac and Tribune Media Services.
