General Magic Inc, the Mountain View, California company with backing from Apple Computer Inc, AT&T Co, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co, Motorola Inc, Philips Electronics NV and Sony Corp is set to give the first detailed demonstration of its wares today at MacWorld. The Magic Cap – Communicating Applications Platform – operating system features a fancy graphical user interface which uses interactive pictures of offices, houses and streets to let users navigate around data, use tools and exchange electronic mail. The Telescript programming language also lets preprogrammed agents automatically handle tasks such as messaging and information retrieval. MacWeek hears that Sony will demonstrate its Magic Cap communicator, which will look uncannily like Apple Newton. Meanwhile AT&T will announce its new electronic mail offering also based upon Telescript – at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
