Ericsson and Akamai Technologies, a provider of cloud-based services for optimising Web and mobile content and applications, online HD video and secure e-Commerce, have signed a strategic agreement to provide mobile cloud acceleration offerings.

The mobile cloud acceleration offerings will enhance the end-user Internet experiences including: mobile e-Commerce, enterprise applications and Internet content.

Both the companies will jointly develop offerings to deliver the content and apps on mobile devices and will provide new business opportunities for both operators and content providers by creating a new business model.

Through this agreement, Akamai’s content and apps, which are already available over the Internet, will be accelerated to mobile broadband.

The partnership will also provide an integrated mobile Internet ecosystem designed to enable mobile network operators to be involved in the Internet value chain.

In addition, the offerings are also designed to simplify how content providers distribute their content and gain access to larger audiences.

Akamai president David Kenny said by combining the company’s global network with Ericsson’s industry expertise will allow the mobile industry to reinvent the way it works with content and application providers and will help end-users get the best possible experience when accessing the Web from their mobile devices.
