Fetch is designed for getting, transferring and reading data objects.

This should not be confused with the slang term fetch that was popularised in the hit naughties movie Mean Girls.

Fetch is a FTP client which is only available on Mac OS. As a FTP, Fetch transfers computer files while also boasting more advanced features such as the ability to edit files without the need to download and re-upload them.

The full-featured GUI-based FTP client is made by Fetch Softworks, and was originally created by Jim Matthews in 1989.

What does Who Wants to be a Millionaire have to do with it?

The tool was initially designed for internal college use, as it was developed by Matthews when he was an employee of Dartmouth College.

The project was then released as shareware and became widely used in the Macintosh community.

In the late 2000’s Matthews appeared in the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the winnings from this were used to acquire the Fetch source code and then launch Fetch Softworks.
