A personal digital assistant, or PDA, is a handheld device that combines computing, telephone/fax, Internet, and networking features.

The term PDA is typically assigned to any small mobile hand-held device that offers the combination of computing and information storage.

First released in 1984 by Psion, the Organiser, the PDA was popular in the late 1980’s and in the 1990’s but they largely fell out of favour in the 2000s due to the rise of the smartphone. By 2010 the PDA was largely discontinued.
