HP issued a statement apologising to customers after it wrongly advertised some laptop products on its UK web site for as little as £1.58p.
The company said wrong processing was to blame.
HP said: We apologise sincerely to impacted customers for any inconvenience caused.”
The BBC reported that social media postings said people had ordered laptops for these prices. It quoted consumer rights group Citizens Advice as saying retailers can often cancel online orders if they have made a “genuine and honest mistake on their part that you should have noticed”.
HP said buyers would be refunded.
“We can confirm that due to a processing error, select products were wrongly priced on our UK website over the weekend. “This has now been corrected with related orders cancelled,” HP said.
