VMware has launched Zimbra 7, an email and collaboration platform that features data sharing capabilities, expanded calendaring and search functionality, and upgraded management features for both IT and end-users, said the company.

Zimbra is optimised for both the casual and power-user, establishing a platform for a next-gen workspace within the VMware End-User Computing vision.

The End-User Computing vision delivers a consumer-focused cloud experience for the enterprise and VMware Zimbra is an on-premise open source collaboration suite in terms of paid mailboxes.

The new Zimbra 7 features include: file sharing; finding and communicating with people; desktop updates; simplified end-user authentication; easily recover deleted items; email and SMS reminders; and user scheduled message delivery, said the company.

VMware Zimbra products vice president Jim Morrisroe said Zimbra continues to be the fastest-growing enterprise collaboration offering with more than 66 million paid mailboxes and more than 200,000 organisations using VMware Zimbra as their next-generation collaboration platform of choice.

The company said that the new Zimbra 7 is available for download from its Collaboration Server 7 along with beta versions of Zimbra Desktop 7 and Zimbra Appliance 7 at the company’s website.
