Macintosh is the name of a series of computers by Apple.

The line of personal computers, both desktop and laptop, was created by Apple’s late founder and CEO Steve Jobs.

Nicknamed Mac, these personal computers were first launched in January 1984 and have since been modernised into super machines.

The original Macintosh was called Macintosh 128K and was a beige big box with a Motorola 68000 CPU and a RAM of 128K. It was commercialised at $2,495. Today it is a collector’s piece.

How many Mac PCs have been sold worldwide?

Since the original Macintosh in 1984, Apple has released several other computers under the same brand on a yearly basis.

These include, for example, Macintosh 512K (1984), Macintosh XL (1985), Macintosh LLx (1988), Macintosh Classic (1990), Macintosh Colour Classic II (1993), Power Macintosh G3 (1999), iMac (1999), MacBook and Mac Pro (2006), and MacBook 12in retina display (2016).

The computers run on Apple’s own operating system, Mac OS.

The first Macintosh sold 72,000 units in its first 100 days after being released. Since 1984, more than 80 million Mac PCs have been sold worldwide.
