Snapchat is a messaging platform where users can send and receive images.
Originally launched in September 2011, the mobile application quickly become a hit, especially among younger generations.
The platform allows its users to send images and videos (and also offers the opportunity to edit them) to a targeted audience. This can be one close friend, to a group of colleagues, or indeed, the whole contacts list.
One of its major characteristics, is the fact that users can choose how long their contacts can see the content for. This can go from one second to ten seconds.
What was the original name of Snapchat?
Snapchat was invented by three former Stanford University students, Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown.
The idea for Snapchat was born for a university project that Brown and Spiegel were working on. It was originally branded as ‘Picaboo’.
The application is today available in 20 languages and works on any phone running on Android or iOS.
