Netflix, which started life as a DVD-by-mail service in 1998, serves over 190 countries, Netflix claimed to have over 81 million subscribers worldwide in April 2016 – with the US alone accounting for 46 million subscribers.
Today, Netflix is most popularly known for its subscription-based film and TV show rental service, which it delivers to subscribers via Internet streaming. Netflix still retains its traditional rental-disk service which it delivers via US mail.
How much do Netflix subscriptions cost?
The Internet video-streaming service allows subscribers to access a library of online content through Internet-connected devices. Netflix currently offers a free month’s trial of Netflix which can be cancelled at any time.
If a user decides to subscribe to the service then there are three packages available – basic for £5.99, standard for £7.49 and Premium for £8.99 – all of which are monthly charges.
As of March 2011, Netflix started acquiring original content for the streaming service, with the first original content show House of Cards debuting in February 2013. Further original programmes picked up by Netflix include Arrested Development, Orange is the New Black and Hemlock Grove.
