More than eight million boards have been sold since day one. Raspberry Pi models are a creation of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, a UK charity that wants to promote computer science studies.

Raspberry Pi 1 Model A

RPi 1 Model A is the lower-spec variant of the Raspberry Pi portfolio of boards, with 256 MB of RAM, one USB port and no Ethernet port.
Due of its small size, the board is light and consumes less power, having been mostly used in embedded projects, especially around robotics.
Raspberry Pi 1 Model A+

Released in November 2014, the RPi 1 Model A+ replaced the Model A version. The board is ideal for embedded projects and projects which require very low power, and which do not require Ethernet or multiple USB ports.
It has 256MB of RAM, one USB 2.0 port, an ARMv6 single core processors, and a processor speed of 700 MHz. The GPIO header was expanded to 40 pins.
Raspberry Pi also worked on the audio specs of the board and the audio circuit incorporates a dedicated low-noise power supply.
Raspberry Pi Zero

The RPi Zero is one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest development board in the market right now. However, it is extremely hard to find and buy. Demand for the board is so high, that retailers like The Pi Hut and Adafruit, have imposed a limit of one board per customer.
RPi Zero is half the size of RPi Model A+ and weights only nine grams. It includes a 1Ghz single-core CPU and 512MB of RAM.
In addition it has a mini HDMI and USB On-The-Go ports, a micro USB power, HAT-compatible 40-pin header, and composite video and reset headers.
Raspberry Pi 1 Model B

The RPi 1 Model B was one of the original boards and has a SoC from Broadcom (the BCM2835), as well as Broadcom’s VideoCore IV GPU at 250 MHz.
With a 512MB RAM, the RPi 1 Model B weights 39.29g and includes two USB ports as well as a 100mb Ethernet port.
Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+

RPi 1 Model B+ was launched in July 2014, and is the last revision of the original Raspberry Pi first family of boards.
The piece of hardware saw substantial improvements compared to RPi 1 Model B, including a GPIO header which added 40 pins to the original.
This version of Raspberry Pis was also the first to have four USB 2.0 ports, compared to the previous two. Power consumption was also improved by replacing linear regulators with switching ones.
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B

Launched in February 2015, the RPi 2 Model B has been built with a 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU and 1GB RAM.
Similar to its previous version, the RPi Model B+, the board includes four USB ports, a full HDMI port, Ethernet port, 3.5mm audio jack, camera and display interface, a micro SD card slot, and a VideoCore IV 3D graphics core.
It runs the full range of ARM GNU/Linux distribution because it has an ARMv7 processor.
Raspberry Pi 3 Model B

The RPi 3 Model B is the most recent model of Raspberry Pi added to the organisation’s portfolio in February 2016.
Additions to the RPi 2 Model B include a 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core ARMv8 CPU, an 802.11n Wireless LAN, Bluetooth 4.1 and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) capabilities.
Just like its predecessor, the board also has all the other specs such as 1GD of RAM, four USB ports, a full HDMI port, Ethernet port, etc.
