Salaries in IT are rising much faster than in many other sectors, and for people with the right skills there are some great opportunities.
According to the Robert Half Salary Guide 2016, the best paying IT jobs are in leadership, with Chief Information Officers, Chief Technology Officers and Chief Information Security Officers taking home maximum salaries of £243,250, £158,750 and £149,500 respectively.
Chief Architects make up to £155,000, while IT Directors earn £126,750 and IT Managers £115,500.
The best paid role in architecture and development is that of a technical architect, which pays between £82,250 and £103,250.
Within business analysis, project management and testing, the best paid roles are programme managers and project management office head, with both paid up to £99,750.
Within infrastructure and engineering, the highest paid role was an infrastructure manager with a range of between £48,500 and £75,250.
The support functions of IT had slightly lower maximum salaries; support managers made between £39,500 and £51,250, while applications and production support managers made between £62,500 and £77,250.
Showing the value placed on security in enterprises, information security managers made between £63,250 and £97,500. Senior IT auditors were paid up to £75,500 and information security officers up to £68,250.
Finally, senior web developers and mobile applications developers were paid up to £66,750 and up to £61,500 respectively.
The fastest growing salaries were in the digital, e-commerce and mobile sphere. Mobile applications developers saw a 7.4 percent salary increase between 2015 and 2016, while web developers saw salaries up 7.3 percent and senior web developers and web designers 7.2 percent.
Security and compliance personnel also saw growth far ahead of the other sectors of IT, with IT auditors seeing salary growth of 6.2 percent and information security managers seeing 6.6 percent. Security network engineers saw growth of 5.8 percent and senior IT auditors saw 5.5 percent.
