Construction giant Dewalt has partnered with Global Mobile Communications to build a ruggedised Android phone called the DeWalt MD501.
Witht the 16GB model priced at £379, the smartphone has been specifically designed for engineers and construction workers who need not just a phone, but a tough phone that can be used in extreme conditions.
The DeWalt MD501 can withstand being dropped from a height of 2 meters, as well as being able to withstand temperatures between -20C to 60C.
The smartphone is also fully resistant to dust particles, waterproof for up to 30 minutes in 2 meters of water, and resistance to chemical spillage and vibrations. The phone has IP68 certification for drop, water immersion and temperature resistance.
Its 5-inch touchscreen is made from Gorilla Glass, which is considerably thin but tough. The screen can be operated while wearing gloves. DeWalt MD501 can also be charged wirelessly.
The phone also has dual-sim capacity which comes handy when one needs to segregate family and friends from professional contacts and also opt for better calling and data plans.
Under the hood, MD501 will have a Mediatek quad-core processor, running Android 5.1 Lollipop. The phone will have a 13 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front facing camera.
It has a 3020 mAh battery that provides a talk time of up to 8 hours. Memory can be expanded up to 64GB with a microSD card slot.
