Telit’s LE866-SV1 Internet of Things (IoT) LTE Category 1 module has been approved for use on Verizon’s 4G wireless network.

The LE866-SV1 is the world’s smallest LTE category 1 IoT module, and Verizon’s 4G is the largest LTE network in the US.

The module is about the same size as a thumbnail, and it is ideal for IoT applications with severe space constraints like wearable trackers, health monitoring devices and smart watches.

Telit CEO Oozi Cats said: "The launch of this module, which is certified on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, is an important step for us in our roll out of products and capabilities for the growing Internet of Things market."

"The module will enable us to supply our customers with an ultra compact, high speed low power module for growing markets like wearables. It is particularly suitable for both the health and sport sectors."

The LTE Cat.1 cellular standard addresses the technical and business requirements in the IoT.

Telit said with the LE866-SV1, it is on the forefront of innovation offering increased battery life for wearable electronics and reducing design cost and complexity for other segments such as fleet management, asset tracking, security and surveillance, point of sale and smart metering.

The 4G LTE network of Verizon covers 2.3 million square miles of America.

The Telit IoT Portal-ready LE866-SV1 is member of the xE866-nested family, which has pin-to-pin compatibility with 2G and 3G modules, the GE866 and the UE866 respectively.

It allows fast time-to-market in places like North America, where LTE is the dominant cellular technology, and in other regions where GPRS and UMTS are still widely implemented.

The family concept allows developers to use a single PCB layout for 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, that is design once and implement globally.
