Non-profit organization Code.org organised the "Hour of Code" campaign last week to make the coding process less look daunting to teachers and students.

Code.org was launched in 2013 offering online tutorials in coding, with the aim of expanding participation in computer science by making it available to schools and helping the US overcome shortage of qualified computer engineers and developers.

The "Hour of Code" campaign encourages millions of students to devote an hour to coding, with US President Barack Obama and model Karlie Kloss taking part to promote the campaign.

President Obama wrote "moveForward(100)", which enabled Elsa, a Disney character, to move forward 100 pixels.

The campaign also raised $5m to expand the "Hour of Code" campaign to 100 million students around the globe.

Google and Salesforce are planning to match donations made to the Indiegogo campaign, Reuters cited Code.org as saying.

Code.org co- founder Hadi Partovi said: "We’re getting third-graders to code."

"Who knows if any of these corporations will even exist when these kids graduate from college?"
