Adult magazine Playboy will be available on the Apple iPad starting March and in its uncensored form, the magazine founder Hugh Hefner announced on Twitter.
The archives will also be available in its uncensored format, he added.
However, the content will be displayed via a Web page on Apple’s graphical Web browser Mobile Safari, not as an app from the App Store.
Playboy spokeswoman Theresa Hennessey clarified that the Web-based subscription service with Bondi Digital Publishing, a New York-based digital media company that publishes digital archives of major consumer magazines, will be iPad compatible and will utilise iPad functions.
Hennessey’s announcement cleared the doubts of readers who wondered how the magazine could launch its app especially when the App Store bans nudity. With the Web app, the magazine need not abide by Apple’s no-nudity rules.
