Facebook co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg is planning to build artificial intelligence (AI) in 2016 to help run his home and support him at work.
In a Facebook post, Zuckerberg said his personal challenge this year would be to build a simple AI similar to Jarvis in Iron Man.
Announced in a Facebook post, Zuckerberg said: "My personal challenge for 2016 is to build a simple AI to run my home and help me with my work. You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man.
"I’m going to start by exploring what technology is already out there. Then I’ll start teaching it to understand my voice to control everything in our home — music, lights, temperature and so on.
"I’ll teach it to let me know if anything is going on in Max’s room that I need to check on when I’m not with her."
Plans also include teaching the assistant to let friends into Zuckerberg’s home by looking at their faces when they ring the doorbell. The assistant will also visualise data in virtual reality to support him at work.
It is not the first time Zuckerberg has given himself a challenge designed for personal growth. His past new year challenges included learning Mandarin, reading two books each month and meeting a new person every day.
Last month, Zuckerberg agreed to give away 99% of his Facebook shares for the cause of human advancement.
