The Department for Transport has pledged £30,000 to make a pothole reporting app Android-friendly.
Fill that Hole has been available on the App Store for three years and is used by regular drivers including delivery drivers and motorists, as well as cyclists, to report bad roads to the local authority.
But now the DfT hopes its cash injection will make the app more widely available, and reduce the liability of councils when it comes to paying out for damage caused by poor road conditions.
The Android version is expected to bring the number of users to 26 million, and will be developed by CTC, the national cycling charity.
"The government is serious about tackling potholes. At best they are an irritation but at worst they can damage vehicles and pose a serious danger to cyclists, Roads Minister obert Goodwill told the Telegraph.
"That is why we want people to tell councils where to find them so they can fill them in. This app means more people are going to be able to report potholes more easily."
