London South Bank University (LBSU) has implemented IBM‘s business analytics software to monitor the progress of its students and analyse course performance.
The IBM software enables LSBU staff to securely access student attendance and course performance in one central database, which is consolidated from each faculty into easy-to-read reports.
The software saves time and money for the staff and equip them with the tools and insight to better identify students who may need additional assistance in their course, IBM said.
With the software, LBSU will have access to information about a student at course, department and faculty level. This is expected to help the university find progression rates for each course.
IBM UK and Ireland business analytics business unit executive Steve Dunnigan said it was a part of IBM’s effort to help clients use information as an asset through the optimisation of its business analytics software.
The software will make it easy for students to register for lectures with the help of card readers that have swipe facility.
The information is stored in a database for the faculty staff and could be used to identify individual student course attendance.
LSBU is now planning to extend the service to their HR and Finance departments as well.
