Google led the US explicit core search market in December with 66.6% market share, followed by Yahoo! with 16% (down 0.4 percentage points) and Microsoft with 12%, according to a report from research firm comScore.

The report said Americans conducted 18.2 billion total core searches in December 2010, with Google sites accounting for 66.6% of share, increase from 66.2% in November.

Yahoo! US’ total core search market decreased to 16 in December 2010 from 16.4% in November, while Microsoft sites grabbed 12% market share, up 0.2 percentage points versus November.

Ask Network grabbed 3.5% of the US core search market, while AOL Network accounted for 1.9%, both registering a drop of 0.1 and 0.1 percentage points, respectively.

In December 2010, Google accounted for 10.95 billion search queries, followed by Yahoo! with 2.63 billion queries and Microsoft sites with 1.96 billion searches.

According to the report, Ask Network search queries decreased marginally by 1% to 575 million from 580 million, while AOL search network queries decreased by 5 percentage points to 312 million from 327 million in November.
