Oracle has announced the availability of the Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2, providing enterprises with a comprehensive and secure engineered system optimised to run Cloudera’s entire Platform for Big Data, Cloudera Enterprise, at a low overall total cost of ownership.
Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2, Oracle Big Data Connectors, and Oracle Exadata form a complete and integrated platform for Big Data.
Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2 includes the entire Cloudera Enterprise technology stack and 33% more storage capacity. The Big Data platform is optimised for both batch and real-time processing, using Cloudera Distribution for Apache Hadoop, Oracle NoSQL Database, Cloudera Impala and Cloudera Search to satisfy diverse computing requirements.
With the latest release of Oracle Big Data Appliance, coupled with the recent updates of Oracle NoSQL Database and Oracle Big Data Connectors, Oracle is aiming to bring customers the latest Big Data advancements and integrating these Big Data technologies with data warehouses. When Oracle Big Data Appliance is used alongside the Oracle Exadata Database Machine and Oracle Exalytics, Oracle provides a complete architecture to store, manage and analyse all forms of structured and unstructured data whilst minimising data movement.
Çetin Özbütün, senior VP, Data Warehousing and Big Data Technologies, Oracle, said: "Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2 continues to raise the Big Data bar, offering the industry’s only comprehensive appliance for Hadoop to securely meet enterprise Big Data challenges. Now that Oracle Big Data Appliance comes with the Entire Cloudera Enterprise Technology Stack and a significant increase in storage capacity, enterprises can build an even more cost-effective Big Data platform that can help generate new business value quickly and effectively."
Oracle has also announced that it is a co-founder of the Apache Sentry project to deliver fine-grained authorisation to data stored in Apache Hadoop. With the Oracle Big Data Appliance, Oracle now delivers a complete Hadoop security solution including Apache Sentry and LDAP-based authorisation, pre-configured Kerberos authentication, centralised auditing with Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall.
Mike Olson, Cloudera founder, chief strategy officer and chairman of the Board, said: "Oracle’s addition of the Big Data Appliance X4-2 to its line of engineered systems is tremendous for customers. It bundles the full suite of Cloudera’s software on an affordable and easy-to-install system. With the unequalled connectivity between the Big Data Appliance and Oracle’s Exadata system, plus the rich collection of business software that Oracle offers for unlocking the value of multi-structured data, Cloudera and Oracle deliver an Enterprise Data Hub that can store any kind of data in any volume, in full fidelity, securely. It provides the data governance capabilities that enterprise customers require and delivers real-time analytic and processing solutions right out of the box."
