Inmarsat, a provider of global mobile satellite communication services, has selected the cloud-based HP software-as-a-service (SaaS) as part of a company-wide initiative to drive increased quality and efficiency.

To deliver consistent, quality-assured services quickly to more than 250 users, Inmarsat expanded its on-premise HP Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solution to HP ALM SaaS.

Dominic Potts, head of Group Test Strategy at Inmarsat, commented: "Several acquisitions by Inmarsat had left us with disparate IT teams using different tools, making business alignment difficult. The requirement for visibility and traceability meant that we needed to streamline application lifecycle management tools across the organisation quickly and cost effectively. To achieve this, we took a SaaS-based approach which has enabled us to simplify our IT and provide comprehensive reporting capabilities. HP accomplished the migrations fast and without disruption to our day-to-day business."

Inmarsat also rolled out HP Performance Center SaaS and HP Business Availability Center Anywhere SaaS to provide a complete software lifecycle management solution. By transitioning to SaaS, it has eliminated outages, improving the availability and stability of Inmarsat’s ALM. ALM on SaaS has also increased accessibility as users do not have to be connected to the Inmarsat network to access it.

The SaaS approach eliminates the need to purchase new products and speeds time-to-revenue by shortening deployment and training cycles. Development costs are reduced by load and performance testing which mitigate any potential risks or weaknesses prior to an application going live.

Toby Marsden, HPSW Business Development, said: "Organisations like Inmarsat depend on applications to perform business-critical functions and drive competitive advantage, but disparate tools and complex methodologies create barriers to delivering reliable, enterprise-class applications on-time. With HP’s application lifecycle SaaS-based solutions, Inmarsat has been able to accelerate high-quality application delivery."
