Facebook is testing a new technology iin efforts to study how users browse the website.

The social networking firm would gather information on how long a user’s cursor lingers over a certain part of its website, or whether a user’s newsfeed is clear at a given instant on the screen of his or her mobile phone.

Facebook analytics chief Ken Rudin said collected data would be incorporated into a data analytics warehouse which can be accessed all through Facebook for any purpose ranging from product development to improved targeting of advertising, according to the Wall Street Journal.

"It is a never-ending phase," Rudin added.

"I can’t promise that it will roll out.

"We probably will know in a couple of months."

Facebook also uses Hadoop, which is an open-source framework deployed to accumulate large amounts of data on bunch of low-cost machines.

During the latest quarter, the social networking giant reported a 60% rise in revenues, boosted by mobile advertising that currently accounts for about half of the revenues made.
