UK based microelectronics manufacturer ARM has expanded its Mali GPU portfolio with the addition of the new ARM Mali-T760 GPU, which offers graphics to mobile devices and smartphones.
Designed for System on Chip (SoC) providers, the new GPU can be scaled to 16 cores and delivers about 326 GFlops when fully configured, which is double compared to its predecessors.
ARM Mali-T760 GPU is claimed to increase energy efficiency and performance by about 400% compared to Mali-T604 GPU enabled by ARM Frame Buffer Compression (AFBC) and Smart Composition.
ARM Media Processing Division executive vice president and general manager Pete Hutton said the Mali GPUs unit shipments have increased by over ten times during the past two years.
"The Mali-T700 Series family builds on our industry leadership in balancing power, area and functionality while incorporating new energy-saving features at the high-end and matching the time-to-market dynamics of the low-end," Hutton said.
"This combination gives our SoC partners a competitive edge, without compromising on performance and energy-efficiency."
The new GPU also offers over 50% decrease in the total memory bandwidth consumption and is said to be particularly built for entry-level Android devices in order to reduce OEMs’ manufacturing complexities and time-to-market.
ARM has already provided usage licensees for the new ARM Mali GPU to companies including MediaTek, Rockchip and LG Electronics.
