The European Union has revealed plans to set up a new high-level task force panel to study the best ways of taxing the digital firms in Europe.
The new panel will look at detecting major troubles with digital taxation from an EU’s point of view, and present diverse probable solutions.
The EC will create any required EU initiatives to boost the tax framework for the digital economy in Europe.
European Commissioner for Taxation, Customs, Statistics, Anti-fraud and Audit for Algirdas Šemeta said today’s tax systems were conceived in a pre-computer age, so it is no surprise that they often clash with the modern, digital economy.
"Taxation must not be an obstacle to all that is good about the digital revolution, Šemeta said.
"Yet, we must also ensure that the digital sector plays fair and pays fair.
"The challenges linked to taxing the digital economy are immense and there are no ready-made answers.
"Therefore, we need deep, informed and focused reflection on this issue within the EU, to ensure that the next steps we take are the right ones."
The new panel will include up to seven globally famous professionals on digital economy and taxation, and it will be lead by an individual of political background.
