BlackBerry has launched its instant messaging service application, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), for devices running on iOS and Android operating systems.
The BBM app allows users to chat as well as share photos, files, documents and voice notes, while supporting the use of emoticons.
According to the company, the BBM app is always on and enables users to know when messages have been delivered and read.
The app reportedly allows the users to see when the conatcts are reponding to their message.
BlackBerry BBM business head Andrew Bocking said in a blog post, "To help manage this unprecedented pent-up demand for BBM, we are implementing a simple line-up system to ensure a smooth rollout."
The company announced last week that about six million Android and iPhone users had registered for the app prior to its launch.
Earlier, BlackBerry has delayed the launch of the BBM app due to the availability of an unauthorised version through the Google Play store.
The launch is also expected to strengthen the position of the BlackBerry platform, which has been dominated by Android and iOS.
