Argos launches £99 tablet
Argos has launched MyTablet, an affordable tablet that rivals Tesco’s Hudl.
The 7in tablet is manufactured under its Bush home electronics brand.
The tablet is on sale from October 16th and its main competitors include Google’s Nexus 7 (£199), Amazon’s Kindle Fire (£99) and Tesco’s Hudl (£119). MyTablet will have a RRP of £99.
MyTablet is available in silver or pink and has full access to the Google Play store. It can run any of the 850,000 standard Android apps.
However, when compared to Tesco’s Hudl, MyTablet proved to have a lower resolution screen, half the storage, reduced battery life and a less powerful processor.
Blackberry seeks to reassure customers
Blackberry is publishing an open letter with the aim of reassuring customers about its future.
The letter is due to be published today.
In the letter, Blackberry admits that although it is facing challenging times, it is taking measures to tackle them.
In the second quarter, Blackberry made a net loss of £600m and has agreed a $4.7bn sale deal. The company also announced a 40% cut in its workforce.
Blackberry has agreed to be bought by a consortium led by Fairfax Financial.
An excerpt from the letter says: "These are no doubt challenging times for us and we don’t underestimate the situation or ignore the challenges.
"We are making the difficult changes necessary to strengthen BlackBerry."
HTC phablet unveiled early
Due to leaker details on the internet, HTC has announced its latest handset a day earlier than planned.
The HTC One Max features a fingerprint scanner and a 5.9in screen.
The fingerprint scanner makes this the first Android handset to go on sale with the feature since Apple’s iPhone 5S in September.
The handset is a larger version of its original HTC One model, which was well-received.
However, the One handset was outsold by Samsung’s Galaxy S4 which led to HTC announcing its first ever quarterly loss this month.
HTC announced a deficit of under £62m for its July to September quarter.
