Apple’s iPad Mini tablet’s touchscreen is claimed to be the fastest of all iOS, Android or Windows tablets, a new study claims.

According to Cross platform mobile ad vendor Agawi’s latest TouchMarks study, the iPad Mini’s average response time of 75ms was followed by the iPad 4 at 81ms, which was trailed by a mix of Android and Windows devices.

During tests, the Android-powered NVIDIA Shield boasted an average response time of 92ms, followed by Microsoft’s Surface RT at 95ms, while Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD 2013 stood at 114ms, the Nexus 7 2013 at 135ms and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 8.0 at 168ms.

Agawi said that perhaps unsurprisingly, the iOS devices are more responsive than their competitors.

"Interestingly, the iPad mini – with its smaller screen and 1024×768 resolution – performs similarly to the larger fourth generation iPad and its 2048×1536 resolution, suggesting that responsiveness is not reduced by the larger screen size or resolution," the firm added.

As part of the firm’s latest review of test apps, it was found that the graphics processing unit (GPU) or GPU drivers in the devices may also add major latency.

During tests, the firm used its own Touchscope benchmark to calculate the speed of each tablet while only in airplane mode with high brightness and all background apps disabled.
