Amazon has launched its own app store for devices running on Google’s Android operating system.

The online retailer has also opened a portal for software developers to submit their apps to a store that will open later this year.

In Amazon’s app store, similar to the iPhone app store, applications will be tested and approved before they are released for users.

Amazon is likely to decide the price of apps itself, changing its price, providing discounts during sale events and occasionally offering them for free, besides offering recommendations to users.

The Amazon Appstore is currently offering free downloadable apps. However, the company hopes to begin an annual fee of $99 later this year.
