Worldwide semiconductor sales were $26bn in November, 2010, a decrease of 0.9% compared to prior month when sales were $26.2bn, according to a report by Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

The report said sales of semiconductors increased by 14.4% compared to November 2009 when sales were $22.7bn.

Semiconductor sales for the year through November increased by 34% to $271.8bn compared to $202.8bn for the same period in 2009. All monthly sales numbers represent a three-month moving average.

SIA president Brian Toohey said that despite continuing macroeconomic uncertainty, the semiconductor industry is slated to close the year at record sales levels with year-over-year growth rates not experienced in nearly a decade.

"The application of advanced technologies continues to further the proliferation of semiconductor content into a wider range of end products including mediatablets, smartphones, eReaders, and automobiles, resulting in impressive semiconductor sales in 2010," Toohey said.
