China Mobile has awarded over half of its 4G network development contracts worth about CNY20bn ($3.2bn) to Chinese firms with foreign firms securing about a third.
The 4G contract is considered to be the world’s largest as the number of mobile customers in the country is over 700 million.
Chinese telecoms equipment manufacturers including Ericsson, ZTE, and Huawei Technologies said they expect to gain high profits from the contract.
Huawei Technologies and ZTE have been reported to have secured about half of the whole contract, whereas European vendors like Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) are said to get a 10% share each.
China Mobile is planning to set up 200,000 base stations this year, according to Reuters.
