HP has launched new products under the HP Converged Storage based software-defined storage platform which claimed to improve efficiency and agility of virtual storage.
The new products include HP StoreVirtual Virtual Storage Appliance software along with two software plug-ins for HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage.
HP StoreVirtual VSA, which is powered by the HP LeftHand operating system, features new adaptive optimisation capabilities that allow it to offer data tiering as well as move actively used data to faster storage like the solid-state disk.
The data tiering enables the software to move data blocks to high-performance or cost-optimised storage automatically, based on application requirements to offer better efficiency and performance.
According to the company, the HP StoreVirtual VSA allows customers to reduce costs by repurposing and virtualising their third-party storage for inactive data.
The new HP StoreVirtual VSA is claimed to install three times faster and offer 11 times faster capacity compared to the competitive software-defined storage and comes with support for VMware ParaVirtualized SCSI Controller as well as Microsoft Windows Server with Hyper-V integration.
HP also introduced 3PAR StoreServ that offer integration with applications from independent software vendors and has combined it with the new HP StoreFront Analytics Pack for VMware vCenter Operations Manager to offer better virtualised environments.
The HP StoreFront Analytics Pack for VMware vCenter Operations Manager software offers forecasting data regarding HP 3PAR StoreServ storage services that includes hardware-accelerated thin provisioning, which is claimed to increase storage capacity efficiency without affecting application performance.
