Computer outage causes worldwide flight delays

Sabre’s airline reservation system back online after four-hour outage.

Flight delays around the world were blamed on an airline reservation system firm’s computer outage.

Jets were grounded at airports across the globe after Sabre experienced a massive computer outage at about 5.20am on Tuesday, August 6.

Crowds of people were left waiting hours for their flights on affected airlines including Alaska Airlines, American, Cathay Pacific, Frontier, Jet Blue, LAN, Quantas, United, Virgin America and Virgin Australia.

Sabre, based in Texas, said it has now resolved the problem.

A spokesperson said: "Sabre customers were unable to connect to our system for a period of time this evening. The system has been restored and customers are now able to connect to Sabre. We apologise and regret the inconvenience caused."
