Apple Biometric folder

Apple’s iPhone 5S will have a fingerprint scanner that could stop others accessing the device, an app developer has claimed.

The indication that either the 5S or iPhone 6 will have the scanner was found in a string of code in the latest beta release of the company’s iOS 7 software.

The code describes a user touching the home button with their thumb, before a fingerprint appears onscreen and changes colour, possibly to demonstrate it is a match, after which the phrase ‘recognition is complete’ comes up.

App developer Hamza Sood, who noticed the code, also posted screenshots on Twitter which also revealed a folder called Biometric Kit.

Rumours about the development of a fingerprint scanner first emerged before the iPhone 5’s release last September, when Apple purchased security company AuthenTec, which had expertise in near field communication and biometric security technology.
