IBM has launched the new version of its DB2 database software that claims to speed up the rate of data analysis and decision-making.
The new version of software, DB2 10.5, comes with the new technology called BLU Acceleration, which is claimed to make data analysis simpler, cheaper and faster.
The company said IBM DB2 uses dynamic in-memory technology to load terabytes of data in random access memory to simplify query workloads and has actionable compression that allows analytics to be performed directly on compressed data.
IBM’s information manager Bob Picciano said that the company’s work with beta clients and internal tests show significant speed and simplicity.
"In one example, BLU Acceleration was shown to be 10 times faster than another well-known in-memory database system," Picciano said.
The new database application can be combined with IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Dynamic Cubes to offer speed and simplicity for reporting and analytics.
Additionally, the software uses both multi-core and single instruction multiple data (SIMD) features in IBM Power and Intel x86 processors.
