Huawei unveiled a new smartphone, the Ascend P6, which it claims is the world’s slimmest and would help the company in capturing smartphone share from Apple and Samsung.

Measuring 6.18mm and weighing about 120g, the new Ascend P6 features a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, a 4.7-inch high definition display, a 5-mega pixel front-facing camera and an 8-mega pixel rear-facing camera.

The new smartphone comes with a 2000mAh battery and an in-built Android 4.2.2 operating system, in addition to a ‘MagicTouch’ that improves screen responsiveness even when wearing gloves.

Other features such as automated discontinuous reception (ADRX) and quick power control (QPC) battery optimisation and power saving technology would improve the smartphone’s performance by 30%.

The device’s multi-screen AirSharing capability facilitates users to connect to a range of devices to increase productivity at work or play by sharing documents or improve gaming experience with minimal lag time.

Huawei is planning to launch the new device in Chinese market during June, with western European sales expected to start in July.

During the first quarter of 2013, Huawei captured 4.3% share of global smartphone shipments, in fourth place while Samsung and Apple led the market with 31.7% and 17.3% market share respectively.
