Yahoo has acquired PlayerScale, a startup developer of infrastructure software for cross-platform gaming, for an undisclosed amount.
The Internet company through a Twitter message on Thursday said that it would continue its support to the gaming development platform, which claims to power games that are played by over 150 million people globally.
PlayerScale CEO Jesper Jensen posted on the company’s website that the company would continue to support its existing product and deliver new services to help users grow and manage their success in cross-platform gaming.
"Our goal has always been to help developers build the best possible games," said Jensen.
"With Yahoo’s backing, we can crank out awesome products and improvements to our platform faster than ever before."
This deal follows Yahoo’s $1.bn acquisition of Tumblr for $1.1bn.
The PlayerScale platform will be working at the backend handling payments, multi-person play, online chat and other features incorporated into games played on a range of devices.
Yahoo announced earlier this month via a Twitter message that it was adding Loki Studios, Astrid, GoPollGo and MileWise to its growing mobile team.
While GoPollGo offers social polling tools, Loki is a mobile gaming company and Astrid is a to-do list app, and MileWise has developed an app for optimising the use of travel rewards.
With former Google executive Marissa Mayer’s presence at the helm of Yahoo since July 2012, the company has picked up startups Alike, Stamped, Snip.it and Summly.
