Facebook has pulled down an app from the site that was similar to the real-life lethal game of Russian roulette by offering users a one-in-six chance of deleting their account.
According to developers of the application, the app was noticed by Facebook through an automated system that deals with negative user experience.
Social Roulette founder Kyle McDonald was cited by TechCrunch as saying that the app was developed to offer users a fun way to take a break from social media.
"It took us four hours to create the project, and it took another four hours after the launch for Facebook to respond by blocking the API key and restricting our ability to create Facebook applications," McDonald said.
"The app was flagged by an automated system for ‘creating a negative user experience."
Upon a player losing the game, the application would delete all features of the user’s account, comprising posts, likes, photos, and friend connections, before completely disabling the account.
However, accounts of the winners would be safe except for a message posted onto their Facebook wall with the message saying: "I just played Social Roulette and survived."
