A US judge has ordered Google to provide Apple with information related to its Android operating system (OS) as part of a patent-infringement lawsuit against Samsung Electronics.

US Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal in San Jose, California ordered Google to disclose information within two days.

Bloomberg reported Grewal’s order which said, "The court cannot help but note the irony that Google, a pioneer in searching the Internet, is arguing that it would be unduly burdened by producing a list of how it searched its own files."

Earlier this week, Apple urged the judge to force Google to provide documents related to its Android OS.

According to a court filing, Apple argues that Android is used in all of the South Korean firm’s allegedly infringing products and "provides much of the accused functionality" in its claims.

The case is different from the one Apple and Samsung went to trial in 2012 in the US, which is due to commence in 2014.

It follows a previous case in which a US jury panel awarded Apple $1.05bn in damages in August 2012, finding Samsung infringed six of its seven mobile-device patents.

Apple had initially demanded more than $2.5bn in damages from Samsung for the infringement.
