Google is planning to invest $390m in its continental European data centre located in Belgium to meet growing demand for online services.
Located in the St. Ghislain, southwest of Brussels, the Belgian facility will cater to Google’s services like search, Gmail, and Youtube in Europe.
According to the company, the facility currently employs 120 workers and is claimed to be the most energy efficient facility.
In April 2007, Google invested €250m in the data centre and the facility became fully operational in September 2010.
The company claims it is its data centre to run without refrigeration, using an advanced evaporative cooling system that draws grey water from a nearby industrial canal.
Earlier, the company had invested $150m to build its first Latin American data centre in Santiago, Chile and was reported to invest $185m to expand its data centre in Finland.
