China claims the US had been the source of more than half of the hacking attacks on the country during the first two months of 2013.
The news comes amidst rising tensions between Beijing and Washington over internet use as both countries have been fighting over the issue of cyber attaacks. Both countries have accused each other of hacking into one another’s government websites.
According to Xinhua, an unnamed official from China’s National Internet Information Office said: "A large amount of facts have proven that for many years, China has been one of the primary victims of cyber attacks."
According to a report from China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Coordination Center (CNCERT), about 2,196 US-based control servers ‘controlled’ 1.29 million host computers in China during the initial two months.
In February, the Chinese Defense Ministry revealed that two of its chief military websites were targeted by nearly 144,000 hacking attacks per month during 2012, with about two-thirds originating from the US.
In addition, a US computer security firm reported that a secretive Chinese military unit was probably the reason behind a series of hacking attacks aimed at the US.
