Chipmaker Intel has launched the Solid-State Drive 525 Series (Intel SSD 525 Series) in a small mSATA form designed for Ultrabook, notebook, embedded systems and workstation upgrades.
Part of the Intel 500 Series SSD family, it claims to deliver the performance of the Intel SSD 520 Series client drive with PCI Express (PCIe) mini-connector and occupies about one-eighth the space of the 2.5-inch hard disk drive (HDD).
Intel Non-Volatile Memory Solutions product line manager, James Slattery, said that Intel SSDs reduce the risk of data loss caused by shock, vibration or jarring.
"With these new performance thresholds available in a small form factor package, and backed by Intel quality and reliability, the Intel SSD 525 opens the door to an unlimited number of creative embedded solutions such as in-flight entertainment, mobile workstations, microservers and IP phone storage," Slattery said.
The SSD comes with a random read performance of 50,000IOPS and sequential read performance of 550MB/S.
Available in 30GB, 60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 180GB and 240GB capacities, the SSD comes coupled with a random write performance of up to 80,000IOPS and sequential writes of 520MB/S.
Features of the SSD 525 include Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 128-bit encryption capabilities for data protection, while the device uses an Intel 25-nanometer (nm) multi-level cell (MLC) and NAND flash memory.
