According to a privacy trends study by Microsoft, consumers need more assistance in managing their personal information online.
The majority of US adults believe they don’t have control on how their personal info is collected online.
Microsoft chief privacy officer Brendon Lynch said as online activities have become a valuable part of daily life, privacy is incredibly important.
"At Microsoft, we strive to help our customers manage their personal information online by providing easy-to-understand privacy policies, settings and guidance," Lynch said.
"We take seriously our responsibility to customers by investing in a comprehensive and dynamic privacy program that implements our policies and delivers privacy innovations to our customers."
According to 39% of people surveyed, consulting friends and family, in addition to company privacy statements, were their top source of private data.
However, 32% revealed that they were concentrating on companies’ privacy reputations, track records and policies during their selection of websites to visit or services to use.
