Fedora Project, a Red Hat sponsored collaboration has released Fedora 18, the latest version of its free, open source operating system distribution.
The Fedora 18 combines open source features, installation experience and innovative technological enhancements into an operating system that can be used by anyone, Red Hat claimed.
Fedora project leader Robyn Bergeron said that the release is robust, yet flexible and brimming with diverse enhancements.
"From multiple desktops and cloud platforms, to numerous new features simplifying administration, to our brand-new installation experience, Fedora 18 reflects our passion for delivering the future, first," Bergeron said.
The operating system has user interface for installation procedure, a part of Anaconda has been completely re-written and robust options are made available for complex installations.
The GNOME desktop is installed with the updated 3.6 release, and the 4.9 version of KDE Plasma Workspaces.
The Fedora 18 includes many language and programming environment updates, with new versions of Python, Rails, D and Perl, Clojure tooling packages.
The System administrator features include the Samba 4, storage area network (SAN) and network-attached storage (NAS) management, the addition of System Storage Manager, oVirt Engine, the oVirt virtualization platform with its 3.1 release, and Eucalyptus.
