According to a study by Arieso, iPhone users used the most mobile data, followed by Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II users

Arieso CTO, Dr. Michael Flanagan said that it seems the capabilities of the newest smartphones, and not tablets, are causing greater data demand.

"The voice-capable ‘phablets’ – like the Samsung Galaxy Note II – are currently being used like smartphones, not tablets" said Flanagan.

LTE provides lot of bandwidth, which has reduced the pressure on UMTS networks.

"From our own experience helping operators around the world prepare their networks for evolving user demands, we hypothesise that LTE alone won’t ‘solve’ the data problem – it will exacerbate it," Flanagan added.

According to Arieso, network design should have a different approach, and small cells should be managed with high precision.
