China’s Ministry of Culture has accused 11 Internet companies including Tencent and Baidu of spreading porn and violent content in the country.
Xinhua reported the Ministry of Culture’s statement claiming that some of the products by the company were playing the pornography card and challenge the accepted moral values of China.
The ministry also discovered comic and animated products containing "bloody, terror and violent content" on 21 websites run by the companies.
It is planning to impose fine upon the 11 companies and give harsher punishment to Tencent, Baidu and the other accused companies.
The Ministry has also decided to create a blacklist of companies that repeatedly break rules.
Xinhua reported a ministry of culture official saying: "We hope that major companies can shoulder their due social responsibilities and offer healthy, quality, cultural products."
Previously China launched an anti-pornography campaign to "clean up" the Internet, an initiative that was intensified after President Xi Jinping came to power.
