The International Cricket Council (ICC) has awarded a contract to SAP to provide analytics and cloud services for the 2015 Cricket World Cup.

The partnership will see SAP use its HANA platform to enable the real-time broadcast of live matches across the ICC’s network of websites.

SAP will also provide cloud and big data services to host the ICC’s historical ICC Cricket World Cup statistics database. This data will be made available to sport fans over the coming months, allowing them to analyse previous team and player performances in a variety of ways.

ICC’s CEO David Richardson says SAP’s technology will bring the public closer to the game.

He said: "SAP is changing the way sports fans interact with data and information. In a sport such as cricket where there is a healthy appetite for information and statistics, especially across digital platforms."

Robert Enslin, president of SAP Global Customer Operations, added: "Our technology provides the ICC the ability to engage fans with insightful and user-friendly solutions, bring them closer to the action on the field and keep them informed about their favourite matches.

"This partnership is another example of how all organisations, including sports leagues, teams, players and events, can run more efficiently and simply in their pursuit of success."
