After dominating 69% of the US market share from January to May, Fitbit is planning to expand its business to Indonesia, India, Philippines and Taiwan by next year.

The company has already commenced promotional activities in China through social media, and has established sales channels in Shanghai and Beijing.

The Wall Street Journal reported Fitbit Asia Pacific general manager Yolanda Chan as saying, "I believe the Asian market will be a major contributor to Fitbit’s global growth within a few years."

The expansion will be followed by the creation of new jobs in the Asian market, where the company currently has around 30 employees.

The company is also planning to inform users about the bands unique features such as customised programmes, which has been designed to keep users interested in the band.

The company has hopes for growth in the Asian markets, going up against other tech giants like Apple, Samsung and Sony who are offering similar devices.

Yolanda Chan added: "Fitbit is not worried about the competition from smartwatches offered by major smartphone vendors as the company is a sport-focused wearable technology company."
